Please join us as we celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Cathryn “CC” Calhoun on Saturday, November 7th at the August Wilson Center. Together, we will enjoy good music, good food, and the fellowship and connection that CC cherished so deeply. We look forward to gathering with family and friends to share memories, celebrate CC’s life, and honor the lasting impact she had on all who knew her.
Dr. Cathryn “CC” Calhoun was a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, fiancée, loyal friend, and passionate advocate. She was raised in Pittsburgh, where she developed the values of hard work, kindness, and service to others. CC dedicated her career to uplifting communities through arts, culture, education, and engagement. She was the Director of Education and Community Engagement at the August Wilson African American Cultural Center, where she created meaningful opportunities for people to learn, connect, and thrive. She was especially passionate about empowering young people, celebrating Black culture, and supporting the LGBTQ+ community.
CC embraced life with enthusiasm, curiosity, and purpose. She loved travel, fashion, the arts, and creating lasting memories with family and friends. Just months ago, she achieved a lifelong goal by earning her doctorate. She recently began a new chapter in Boston with her beloved fiancée, Shirazette, and together they worked to expand access to arts and educational opportunities through their nonprofit organization. More than anything, CC will be remembered for her warmth, generosity, and the profound impact she had on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
